I built a new large sample bank of my own vocals in EXS24 logic sampler, the vocal snippets and bass I played by midi/keys into logic and then edited and crafted the hits around it, no bpm, no grid and no quantization, no timing, the track contains a few field recordings, one of tiny migration birds, who pass by twice a year, I just recorded last weeks while mixing in September 2023 laying in the forest. They symbolize multispecies coextistence, the whispering is a field recording too, i had recorded it into my ipad on a plane during a flight, it is the original recording, looking out of the plane window and whispering into microphone, recording in Audioshare, i guess it is pretty clear what it means, but also allows space for your own interpretations, and the end is a field recording from my forest interventions, me walking over dry woods in Finnish forest for 'radio art zone', you can find still online
radioart.zone/sunday-31-july - I overdubed the vocal part after the whisper in my studio, vocalizing the harmonies spontanoulsy one morning, the 2nd and 3rd voice I added later while mixing, when I felt it was not dissonant enough, I needed another emotional level, the vocal
I prefer not to explain poems but in this case I want to take a stand:
The reference to 'the west', as opening track is in relation to my 2nd solo album: "westernization completed" from 2003, which tells the story of me being raised by communists/marxist in East Germany and the effects of the wall coming down and facing capitalism on me.
I am grateful the wall came down relatively peacefully and I am not forced to live under authoritarianism anymore, it is deeply hopeless and depressing, I am lucky not to live in a geopolitical region that is on the way of some Empire to get oil, gas, water or minerals. Many of my friends are not that lucky and it hurts me deeply. Aware that 'the west' is complicit and in some instances responsible, I experienced that people who have not lived under authoritarian violence, do not understand authoritarianism and some conflate it with capitalist critic which is immensely important too.
